Why not enhance your health and wellbeing by taking some time to visit court hey park.

The walking for health group that meet on Monday morning is an example of a regular health promoting event with social benefits. Anyone can join in and take part in a supervised walk around court hey park. The walk takes in some of the wildflower meadows (season permitting) as well as the Gladstone Roots Heritage Site = history and health.

The Landlife project ‘Great Outdoors’ promotes the use of outdoor spaces for mental and physical well being and organises a number of walks through the park also.

The therapeutic value of a stroll along a meandering path set in mostly wooded but open parkland has to be experienced. I would sincerely like to encourage people to use the park for relaxing strolls until they find a quiet place to sit.

Although many people are familiar with the term ‘green exercise’ and the extra benefits we can get when we train outdoors on a regular basis, exercise can also help reduce the frequency of depression and other related illnesses.

I have an interest in exploring outdoor counselling and ecotherapy. Talking Therapy or ‘Walk and Talk therapy’ can be way of enjoying the extra benefits of exercise and experiencing nature within the frame of the therapeutic process.

Court Hey Park offers a number of pathways whereby a supportive helper and their client can stroll along at a suitable pace and if required, sit on one of the park benches that are available. Outdoor therapy can be challenging due to the variable amount of distractions - not least the weather! On most days the park has a number of walkers, joggers, dog walkers and the odd vehicle as a road runs though to the National Wildflower Centre, however there is a quietness found in many areas once you get to know them.

Memory Walk is the Alzheimer's Society annual flagship fundraising event. During September, 2010 staff from the NWC supervised a walk in Court Hey Park to raise money to support people with dementia and their carers in Knowsley and Liverpool.
